This week in transit: Support regional transit this week

TAKE ACTION

This week there are two fine transit-related events for you to put on your calendars:

First, our friends at the Isaiah Project will head to the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors meeting on October 24th to speak in favor of bringing public transportation to the County—specifically asking for the County to extend GRTC service from the City limits, down Route 1, to John Tyler Community College. Please join them in this important work, and read more about the opportunity to connect Chesterfield to the rest of our region’s public transportation network.

Second, the Virginia Transit Association are hosting Transit on Tap at Stone Brewing on October 25th from 5:30–7:30 PM. Join transit advocates, government representatives, and community leaders to do a bit of networking and have a discussion on the (pretty great) Pulse ridership numbers.

AROUND THE REGION

Reminder! If you’re the parent or guardian of a Richmond Public Schools high school student, make sure you fill out the permission slip to get them free rides on GRTC.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch looks at the City’s renewed work to rezone Monroe Ward as part of the Pulse Corridor Plan. Denser development and fewer parking spaces in a transit-rich neighborhood is always a good idea!

ELSEWHERE

StreetsBlog digs into a study out of Milwaukee that looks at a couple of relatively new bus lines that help connect folks living downtown to the suburban job centers in the outlying counties. A lot of this study recalls the relationship between Richmond and Henrico.
